Who We Are

Our Story

Corrie Cockrell Carter and Courtney E. Cockrell are both attorneys and the proud granddaughters of James Charles Evers and great-nieces of Medgar and Myrlie Evers. Over fifty years before our acceptance to the University of Mississippi School of Law, our Uncle Medgar was denied admission solely because of his race. Therefore, we consider it a full circle moment to graduate from the same school that refused to admit him and take pride in knowing that we were able to finish something he started decades before. We recognize the tremendous responsibility that comes with carrying on the Evers legacy and are intentional and serious about ensuring that the contributions and sacrifices of our family members are recognized and celebrated forever.

In The Community

We have partnered with the Medgar and Myrlie Evers Institute, UMMC EversCare, Jackson Free Clinic, and Opportunity Center of Jackson to host a COVID-19 vaccination drive, toiletry bag give away drive, and food drive to help meet the needs of those experiencing homelessness in Jackson, Mississippi.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to build on the existing Evers’ legacy by promoting empowerment and transformational change through community engagement
